dawna - trash the dress
November 9th, 2009
I love trash the dress sessions!
everyone is completely laid back, there is no timeline for us to follow and no need to worry about getting the dress dirty!
it was a perfect evening at the beach and after a game of football along the water (that got us a few odd looks from some of the folks walking by) in their wedding best, dawna and jarod spent the evening making out on the beach, strolling in the water and sharing endless laughs as the sun slowly set.

tonight was a little bittersweet. it’s been such a great summer with so many wonderful families and couples inviting me into their lives for an hour or two. even more special are the people who let me in for an entire day, for their biggest day. tonight I finished editing the last of those big days and I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful couple to finish things off.

shirley & murray at rae dawn arabians were kind enough to let us use their beautiful farm on this perfect saturday. for over 10 years they have been busy growing this amazing business that raises world class show horses. they were the most gracious hosts and let us have full run of the grounds…..

I’m sitting here at 1 a.m. on a tuesday, not quite sure what to write.
sometimes I forget what a privilege it is to be invited by a couple into their lives for this special day. sometimes in the busyness of running around making sure I get all of the shots I don’t always take the time to just stop and appreciate what an amazing job I have.
then I sit back when I’m finished editing all of their photos and just scroll through them and remember…..
it poured all week and I woke up saturday morning to see alot more of the same. just a few hours after the day started I poked my head outside of the church as the ceremony was wrapping up to see that the rain had stopped…..and it wouldn’t start again until dinner was well under way that night.

sometimes the wedding party gets a little left out of the spotlight but I think that the wonderful family and friends on both sides deserve a little praise. while the guys did a great job and kept everyone joking, the girls were especially great to work with. besides all looking extraordinary that day, they put up with me and all of my ideas, staying outside much longer than I’m sure they wanted to. they have the goose bumps to prove it….

did I mention how incredible all of the women looked that day? melanie was stunning and after a few initial jitters in front of the camera she quickly got more comfortable and made my day very easy. her friends and sister were so much fun to work with, they were clowning around the whole afternoon, always leaving time to work it for the camera.
reitman’s ad style.

yep, this is how I spend my saturday’s.

I have a bit of a bucket list of different shoots I would like to do and locations I would love to use. I’ve always wanted to shoot a proper english wedding, something on an estate in the english countryside where the women all wear hats. new york would of course be cool. I would love to go back to manila and capture an authentic filipino wedding.
close to the top of the list was shooting a ceremony at a little country church. I remember going to a small church when I was younger, complete with hard wooden pews and those great big windows that just filled the entire room with that perfect sunday morning light.
I didn’t think that I would get to cross something off my list so soon but lynn and joel helped me with that this summer. it was an incredibly hot day and while most guests made a comment about how air conditioning would be a great thing on this day of all days, I don’t think it could have been more perfect.
lynn looked amazing as she entered the back of the small building and the whole ceremony had a beautiful feeling to it. their closest family and friends were gathered close together, watching these two become one.
the rest of the day was incredible. we had the most beautiful sunset to work with and we got to spend a few hours just wandering around agar’s corner, stopping every so often to take advantage of one perfect spot after another. soon enough joel and lynn seemed to almost forget I was there, content to just walk around the farm hand in hand.

I don’t normally post alot of photos of the guests dancing but I just love this one. this little guy wouldn’t stop looking at the camera all night, he was so happy to just be bouncing along while mom and dad danced the evening away.
