The people I’m lucky enough to work with always amaze me. Stacey was in one of the weddings I captured last summer and I was so excited when she emailed me a few months ago and said that she and Brenen were expecting!

Despite having the usual new parent jitters, they took little Nolan to the beach and while mom and dad stayed on mosquito patrol I was able to get some beautiful shots of this new family. The little guy was more interested in getting some sleep than in having his photo taken so we got alot of yawning shots and one quick snap of his eyes.

They assure me he’s not always this cooperative at home!

I asked Stacey & Brenen what their favorite part of having Nolan had been so far.

Without missing a beat Brenen quickly said, “I just can’t get over how cute he is!”

As long as I get to do this job I will never forget that answer or the enthusiasm he said it with or the look on his face as he stared down at his son.

Dad’s don’t always get as much attention during a newborn shoot (and don’t worry, there are plenty of mom and son shots coming) but I just had to post these tonight. Seriously, how nice is this?

img_3565I won’t lie, I was a little nervous before this shoot. we did it together with micah’s cousin and I got to their house before ladonna and micah arrived. her lovely sister mentioned that he had kept her up during most of the night and this could be a little rough.

well, mom was a little tired after a long night but he was still full of energy! he seemed to love the click of the camera and if I sat still beside him he would look straight at the lens and just stare as I quickly snapped some of these beautiful shots….

micah had this half-smile sort of thing going on and I was determined to get at least one shot of it. so I sat around and waited…..until he sneezed instead.

img_3845last week I had my first ever ‘real’ babysitting gig. our friends brought little eliza into the world a few weeks ago and mom decided it was time to get her hair done and asked if I would like to watch their little girl for a few hours on wednesday. growing up I was never really around babies at all and other than our niece and nephew my experience is limited. I won’t lie – I was a little nervous. marsha armed me with all the little tips on how to handle her if she got really fussy.

put a little music on.

hold her horizontally so her tummy is pressing against my hand a little.

turn the faucet on because she loves the sound of running water.

check her diaper. I know some guys might not think of this one but I do at least know that much. I let her continue with the list.

I’m happy to announce that we both survived and eliza was fast asleep when mom came home.

what she did during the previous three hours really isn’t important.
